Working with Stop Motion Animation
12/2/14 - Our Stop Motion Projects
Look at the following movies and talk with your partner about what you see in the movies. Think about how they tell the story, what materials are used, how the stop motion animation is created.
Step 1: You and your partner need to choose one of the 7 Habits.
Step 2: Think of an example of someone demonstrating your habit and put this into a story that has a setting, characters, and a beginning, a middle, and an end.
Step 3: Plan your background. Will you need more than one scene? What will you use to make your background?Plan your characters and what they are going to do. How will you show them moving? What will you use to make your characters?
Step 4: Print out a planning sheet and get to work planning your story. <planning sheet>
Step 5: After all your parts are made, you will need to share your plan with one of the adult helpers (go through the story demonstrating how things are going to move). Once they sign off on your plan you can move to the lab to put together your movie.
Step 6: If we have time you'll want to add a backing track (music) to your movie and export it so that we can share it on the website.

First things first:
Working in groups of 2 here's your roles:
1. Set up camera and filming area (get camera from Mrs. Tisdell or use the camera that is set up at your group's work area). Clear the area where you'll be filming your movie.
2. Get Legos for your creation (get a bucket/basket and a mat).
3. Open SAM software on the computer that you've connected your camera to. (get whiteboard, marker and eraser if you want)
Beginning with the end in mind - Your task: Using the Lego bricks and pieces in your bucket/basket collaboratively create a Spectacular Structure. As you build, be sure to snap a picture each time you add a lego piece. We will do a gallery walk of all of your movies.
Seek first to understand - then to be understood - With your group discuss what type of a spectacular structure you might build. Come to an agreement on what you're going to try to build. Make sure everyone has had a chance to listen and share before you start building.
